I cant help but get sucked into this subject even though many believe PR doest matter, well it does to me.Because I get more money the higher ranking my sites have.

It is often advised to test a keyword by looking it up on google with quotation marks around it to see your “real competition”. The problem is, most people don’t use quotation marks when they search, and when I look at the difference between keyword and “keyword”, keyword (without quotations) gets me high PR, well established sites, while quotation marks gets me a bunch of spammy sites ( and the top of the list isn’t even an actual english site but a horrible software translation).

The keyword itself isn’t very good (few searches) so the competition is obviously abysmal, if not non-existent. Does this mean that on searches without quotation marks where there aren’t any decent results, Google just grabs an all purpose site like about or Wikipedia,that vaguely relates to the keyword, and if somebody seriously tried to rank for it, they could dominate it easily?

Looking up keywords using quotes gives you an idea of your direct competition who are actually targeting that specific keyword phrase.If the top ranking sites using quotes are all weak then there’s a good chance you can dominate it.

When searching the keyword phrase without quotes it brings up all sites using all or part of that keyword phrase, many of which are not specifically targeting that phrase.

This would mean those well established sites that only appear without quotes are not directly competing for the specific phrase, but rank well anyway because of there authority and relevancy.This is my understanding anyway and I dont claim to be an expert,just someone who is reasonably versed in online stuff.
